Bagels to the Future!

Friends, Detroiters, Bagelmen and women, lend us your ears,

A year ago, an idea sprouted to provide real, boiled and baked bagels in Detroit. It first grew quickly, feeding on excitement and innovation. But like any idea, it met reality and resistance. There were cloudy days when we asked ourselves, “Who starts a bagel shop nowadays?” and “What do we know about bagels?” We neglected the idea. We tried to forget about it. But friends, you did not let us forget. You praised our innovation, gave us your hard-earned dollars, and trumpeted our cause.

With renewed vigor, we marched forward. Who starts a bagel shop nowadays? Us! What do we know about bagels? A lot more than we did a year ago!

So friends, we thank you for your support over the past year.

And…

We are happy to announce The DIB now has a future site located at the gateway to Corktown!

You wanted parking? It has a grass field. You wanted seating? It’s next to PJ’s. You wanted real, boiled and baked bagels? You’ll get bagel masterpieces!

Now, there’s still work to do to turn this property into Detroit’s bagel shop. But, the first piece is in place.

Bagels to the future!

Hatch Detroit Finale

The Hatch Detroit competition has given us an incredible opportunity to publicize our business, network with other Detroit business owners, make bagel art campaign posters, and check “do an interview with Craig Fahle” off of our bucket list.

Despite finishing in 5th place in the semi-finals, the organizers of Hatch Detroit have graciously offered us the opportunity to continue on in the competition because the votes were so close at the end of the semi-finals.

We feel it is important to honor the original rules of the competition and want to throw our support behind the four finalists: Alley Wine, Hugh, Woodbridge Gypsy Den & Tea Room, and Workroom. Despite their lack of a bagel-centric vision, all of these businesses present ideas that will improve the retail atmosphere of Detroit.

We are infinitely grateful for your support and votes! DIB is 100% moving forward with plans to open in Detroit. In the short run, you can find our bagels at different events around town, including at Model D’s “The Next Big Thing” event on Friday, October 21st.

To bagels and beyond!

DIB in Hatch Detroit!

We’ve made it into Hatch Detroit, where we can win $50k and other perks! Starting Friday, September 30th, through October 14th, please vote for us everyday!

Last Tuesday at Eastern Market!

Ant and the GrasshopperFriends, it’s fall. There is one last Eastern Market Tuesday, on the 27th at 11am, and one last chance to stock up on bagels for the winter! Remember the story of the ant and the grasshopper? The ant spent all summer gathering bagel crumbs while the grasshopper waited until the last Eastern Market Tuesday to just buy whole bagels, if I recall. And they both lived happily through winter, looking forward to when a brick and mortar bagel shop opened. A classic tale in the bagel industry.

Come say hi one last time, this Tuesday the 27th at 11am at Eastern Market.
